Nathan Mordel, M.D.
Nathan Mordel, M.D. received his medical training at Hadassah Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel, graduating with a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After coming to the United States, he completed a residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics and a fellowship in advanced pelvic surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Dr. Mordel has been practicing in Tifton, GA since July of 1998. In July of 2002, he came back to Atlanta part-time, started AMIGS, and joined the Piedmont Hospital Staff. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University Medical School and Medical College of Georgia. He was recognized by the 2009-10 Emory Medical Students for providing outstanding learning experiences. He is an Active Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
Dr. Mordel specializes in advanced Robotic, Laparoscopic and Pelvic surgery, including for fibroids, endometriosis, heavy and/or painful menstrual periods, pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. He has performed over 1500 Robotic and Laparoscopic Hysterectomies and Myomectomies for uteri up to 3000 grams (7 pounds), without any bowel or ureteral injuries. His conversion rate is less than 0.2%. He has also performed over 1000 Tension Free Vaginal Tape Placement procedures, and over 500 Robotic and Laparoscopic Sacrocolpopexy and Sacrocolpocervicopexy procedures.
Dr. Mordel is married with two sons. He is fluent in English, Hebrew, Lithuanian, and Russian. His personal interests include wildlife, geography, history, spending time with family.
Heather Gibbons-Doig, M.D.
Heather Gibbons-Doig, M.D. received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College in Cambridge, MA in 1994. She graduated from MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, in 2002 and received her Obstetrics and Gynecologic residency training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, and Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout her medical training, she was nominated for multiple teaching awards and was honored with the “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the Drexel Medical School Class of 2006. During a brief hiatus in her residency, Dr. Gibbons-Doig served on the faculty at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey, as a post-doctoral research fellow performing research in bioterrorism and disaster preparedness and serving in the Medical Reserve Corp. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Gibbons-Doig joined AMIGS and the Piedmont Hospital Staff in September of 2008. She is appointed to the Clinical Teaching Faculty at Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She was recognized by the 2009-10 Emory Medical Students for providing outstanding learning experiences. She is an Active Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), an Active Fellow of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP), and a member of the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecologial Society (GOGS).
Dr. Gibbons-Doig’s special interests include advanced laparoscopy, infectious disease, and public health and disease prevention. She is especially passionate about HPV (human papilloma virus), abnormal cervical cytology/pathology, and colposcopy. She provides extensive counseling so patients understand the pathogenesis of the human papilloma virus and it causal relationship with pre-cancerous cells of the cervix (dysplasia) and cervical cancer. She is up to date on the most conservative management of HPV and abnormal pap tests in order to minimize risk of cervical cancer and to reduce the need for surgical procedures such as LEEPs (loop electrocautery excision procedures) and hysterectomies.
Dr. Gibbons-Doig grew up in New Jersey and was a nationally-ranked and world-ranked swimmer. She is married with two daughters and a son. She is a member of the Harvard Club of Georgia and is a volunteer interviewer for the Harvard Admissions Committee. Her personal interests include scuba-diving, international travel, physical fitness, cats, and spending time with family and friends.
